Back in 2010 Eli Roth presented audiences with the found-footage horror, The Last Exorcism, which I happened to really enjoy. A lot of people didn’t like the ending and wah, wah, wah, but it was a case where an ambiguous ending worked for me and made the film a lot more creepier, as opposed to the too-abrupt ending of The Devil Inside. Anyway, news broke earlier this year that there was going to be a sequel and supposedly the next film will involve a halfway house, a love story, and a group of renegade Reverends. Umm…really?
Bloody-Disgusting reports that the movie will indeed be a sequel and it will follow Ashley Bell’s character, Nell Sweetzer, as she adjusts to life in a halfway house 6 months after the events of the first film. Apparently, Nell realizes that the demon is still after her, which is odd considering the baby daddy never sticks around. Among the demon-shenanigans, Nell falls in love with a boy named Chris…hmm how do you tell someone that you pushed out the child of Satan? Those hemorrhoids alone must be hell (hehe).
Along with the romantic arc of the sequel, Nell will also be chased by a group of rogue Reverends who are trying to kill her and there will be a twist never seen before in an exorcism movie.
Guys, I don’t know about this–it sounds awful. I really enjoyed the first one because it was simple and somewhat informative on the subject of exorcisms. It seems as though the sequel is going in a completely different direction, making it sound like an entirely different film altogether. I am happy that Bell is returning as Nell but I am not sure how much her acting will save the movie this time around.
